7 Genius TikTok Organisation and Cleaning Hacks You’ll Wish You Knew about Earlier
To add to this, the social media platform has also gained a reputation as a resource for revolutionary organisation and cleaning hacks that will make your life easier and have your home looking (and smelling) a million times better.
From removing stubborn stains on your carpet to achieving fresh smelling clothes with every wash, here, we're sharing the top home hacks from TikTok we can't get enough of.
7 Genius TikTok Organisation and Cleaning Hacks
1. Removing stickers
We needed to start off with this one because we've wasted way too much of our time trying to solve this problem.
So, you have a sticker to remove from a mirror, window or any type of product — you start to pick away at a corner, go to pull it and... it breaks off, so you're left picking at it so much so you actually begin to damage the surface underneath. Or, even if you get a clean life, you're still left with that annoying sticky residue, which is another nightmare to clean.
However, TikTok user @acleanbee's technique makes removing stickers an actual joy. Yes, really. She simply heats up the sticker with a hairdryer so the glue is melted. Once hot, she uses a knife or other sharp object to carefully lift one corner and then peels it off.
2. Perfectly hung curtains
If you want to keep your curtains gathered in the right places, @rightguysaldireviews has the trick for you.
Using old (but clean) toilet rolls, simply feed one toilet roll onto the pole between each curtain hole, which will support your curtains as they hang and create picture-perfect drapes.
You want to do this the first time you hang your window dressings up or when you rehang them after they've been cleaned as it requires you to take the curtain pole down.
3. Cleaning a kitchen sink drain naturally
Another hack from @acleanbee is cleaning a kitchen sink drain with products you have on hand.
She firstly sprinkles baking soda into the drain, dispenses some dish soap onto the baking soda and then grabs a toothbrush and starts scrubbing away. The baking soda and soap creates a thick paste.
She then pours distilled white vinegar into the drain, which creates a foam reaction. This is then followed by pouring boiling hot water down the drain — and voila! A sparkling clean sink drain!
4. Cleaning stainless steel without harsh chemicals
Want to restore the shine on your stainless steel kitchen appliances without using harsh (and expensive) chemicals? TikTok user @kiana_kahns has a hack that will achieve this by using an old cloth and a little bit of distilled white vinegar. It's unbelievably simple.
5. Limiting paint mess
Here at Bed Threads, we love giving a room an instant update with a fresh lick of paint. The only problem is that painting can get messy and cleaning those paint splashes isn't the most enjoyable task.
But user @hal.loves has a trick to limit paint splashes and ensure your paint trays can be reused again — and again.
All you have to do is place a bin bag over your paint tray and tie it before you pour paint into it. Once your job is finished, just unravel the knot, slide it off the tray inside out and chuck it in the bin. Now there's no need to even clean your tray!
6. Cleaning stained plastic containers
Do you have plastic containers that are stained from previous foods, which you simply can't remove no matter how many times you wash them? @adikempler might have the answer to your woes.
All you need to do is pour some washing liquid into the container, add some warm water along with a few bits of shredded kitchen roll (yes, you read that correctly), and pop the lid on.
Then, vigorously shake the container for about a minute. Take the lid off, rinse out the water and your container should look good as new.
7. Clean, crisp and fresh smelling clothes
There's nothing better than putting on fresh smelling clothes, and @missmunns has a hack that will get your clean clothes smelling even better than usual.
All you need to do is fill a container with two cap-fulls of fabric softener and an equal amount of water. Then, fully submerge a clean kitchen sponge into the mixture and pop the lid onto the container.
Once your clothes are washed and are ready to be dried in the tumble dryer, open your container, grab your sponge and squeeze out the liquid. Now, place this sponge into the dryer along with your clothes.
8. Removing red stains from your carpet
@cleanthatup has a hack that can get rid of dark stains on carpet using the steam from a hot iron.
In his video, he firstly sprays carpet stain remover onto the affected area and then places an old cloth on top. Next, using the steam setting on his iron, he presses down over the cloth several times before lifting the cloth off to see a stain-free carpet.
