These Are the 8 Shows We’re Streaming in December

December is almost here! Can you believe it? It’s the end of 2020, a strange year that has been a real rollercoaster. How will you be celebrating the end of 2020? Are you taking some time off? Are you finding somewhere local that you can escape to for a holiday? Are you planning to spend time entertaining in small groups with your loved ones? Or are you planning to settle down with some television? Because if your one true wish is to zone out for the rest of 2020 with a binge-watchable series, this month’s streaming offerings are here for you.

There are so many must-watch shows premiering this month, as well as some of the series that began at the very end of November. (The Flight Attendant, starring Kaley Cuoco, we’re looking at you.)

Here’s our pick of the new shows to stream in December.

Earth At Night In Colour

When can I watch it? 4 December on AppleTV+

If you’re a fan of nature documentaries, you need to watch this series. Using innovative technology to observe the animal kingdom in the dead of night, Earth At Night In Colour is a 12 part show that gives audiences a window into the real lives of animals all around the globe. Think David Attenborough, but even more awe-inspiring. Plus, it’s narrated by actor Tom Hiddleston, which is always a plus.

Euphoria special episodes

When can I watch it? 7 December on Binge

The world can’t get enough of Euphoria, the obsessive, shocking, insanely entertaining series from HBO starring Zendaya and Jacob Elordi. Zendaya won an Emmy this year for her work on the show and will return in two special episodes from Euphoria’s creators, streaming on Binge from 7 December. The plot of these episodes is being kept tightly under wraps, but we know that the cast are all returning to reprise their beloved characters. Euphoria fans, mark the date in your iCal now.

The Wilds

When can I watch it? 11 December on Amazon Prime Video

It’s being billed as a cross between The Society and Lost, so consider our interest piqued. The Wilds, starring Australian Rachel Griffiths and newcomer Sophia Ali, is the story of a group of teenage girls mysteriously marooned on a desert island after a harrowing plane crash. As the story of season one unfolds, it becomes increasingly clear, though, that they didn’t end up on that island by accident. Why are they here? And who sent them there? You’ll have to watch season one of The Wilds to find out.

Dom and Adrian: 2020

When can I watch it? 13 December on Stan

Remember the Bondi Hipsters? Well, they’re back in Dom and Adrian: 2020, a very special Stan original mockumentary looking back at the “garbage fire” that was 2020. The Bondi Hipsters Nick Boshier and Christiaan Van Vuuren star as Dom and Adrian, a pair of DJs whose career was set to take off before the bushfires hit, and then a pandemic shut their party going industry down. How do they ‘pivot’? And how will they cope in lockdown? A slight spoiler: not very well. Watch this as the ultimate farewell to this year that will forever go down in history.

Tiny Pretty Things

When can I watch it? 14 December on Netflix

Tiny Pretty Things is a sexy, scandalous, totally sordid look at the world of elite ballet school. Think Centre Stage meets Euphoria – these ballerinas might look picture perfect in their leotards and tutus, but behind closed doors they’re getting up to all kinds of trouble. The series, which is sure to be another must-watch addition to Netflix’s Young Adult canon (just like Elite, Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), follows a ballerina drafted in to join a school after a tragic accident befalls its star student. Can she unravel the truth behind what happened to her fallen comrade? And will she be safe if she does? This is the definition of a binge-watch.

Home For Christmas Season 2

When can I watch it? 18 December on Netflix

Season one of this Netflix romantic comedy was one of the surprise hits of 2019 – season two promises to be just as good. The show follows Johanne, a single woman tired of being judged and shamed by her family so she invents a boyfriend. The only problem is? Her family are desperate to meet him that Christmas, and so begins a 24 day search for someone to bring home for the holidays. The second season will pick up where the first left off, so if you haven’t had a chance to watch it yet, now is your chance! It’s heart-warming and joyous and fun, and we recommend watching it all in one delicious go.

Small Axe

When can I watch it? 19 December on Binge

Billed as a collection of five original films – instead of a five part miniseries – Small Axe is truly a one-of-a-kind television event. Each individual story was conceived by filmmaker Steve McQueen, the man who made Widows, Shame and 12 Years A Slave, and seeks to provide audiences with an education, and a greater understanding, of what it means to be a part of the West Indian community in London in the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. Each film is arresting and powerful and features an incredible cast, including Letitia Wright (Shuri from Black Panther), John Boyega (Star Wars) and Naomi Ackie (End Of The F***ing World), among many, many others. This is going to be one of the most talked about series of the month.

Bridgerton

When can I watch it? 25 December on Netflix

It’s being called Pride & Prejudice meets Gossip Girl: a period drama set during Regency England in which the society set, obsessed with the marriage market for eligible young men and women, is gripped by the news disseminated in a scandalous gossip sheet written by an anonymous scribe called Lady Whistledown, voiced in the show by Julie Andrews. Phew! Intrigued yet? Bridgerton is already one of the most talked about new shows of the year, being the first production from Shonda Rhimes’ collaboration with Netflix (she of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal fame) and starring an effortlessly diverse cast, welcoming in a new era of inclusive period dramas. Plus, it’s sexy as all hell – based on a series of bestselling romance novels, Bridgerton will give new meaning to the phrase ‘bodice ripper’, trust us. Debuting on Christmas day, this is an epic fantasy to lose yourself in over the holidays, an immersive and enveloping fairytale that will definitely be the talk of the town. Lady Whistledown would be proud.
