12 New Shows We Can’t Wait to Watch In January

The holidays mean lazy weekends spent binge-watching a new television show, right? Maybe you've already binged Emily in Paris or The Witcher and you're in desperate need of a new show to watch. Thankfully, the new year is bringing a whole range of exciting television to sink your teeth in, including the return of a few Bed Threads must-watch series

From a mystery thriller with Jamie Dornan to the second season of Euphoria, 2022 is set to start off with a bang. Here’s our pick of the month’s best series.

12 Best TV Shows to Watch in January 2022

1. The Hook Up Plan Season 3

How much do we love this show? Let us count the ways. The Hook Up Plan was one of the original ‘Paris Porn’ Netflix series, before we all fell in love with Lupin, Emily In Paris and Call My Agent.

A romantic comedy about a woman whose friends hire her a gorgeous male escort in order to help get over a breakup – Pretty Woman energy, much? – this show is sexy, silly and so much fun. We adore it. This is the final season and we’re truly not ready to say goodbye.

2. The Tourist

Jamie Dornan. Danielle Macdonald. Shalom Brune-Franklin. Damon Herriman. There’s a fantastic cast in this Killing Eve-esque comedy-thriller, set in the outback of Australia where a British tourist finds himself mysteriously adrift, with no memory as to how he got there, or why he’s being chased.

Dornan is having a bit of a moment, since starring in the acclaimed film Belfast he’s picked up Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominations, and so expect anticipation for this pacey thriller to be high.

3. Call The Midwife Season 11

There’s a reason this show, set in the ‘50s at a clinic for new mothers in East London, has endured for so many years. It’s the best kind of comfort watching, cosy and supportive and warm, spirit-lifting viewing for those times when you really, really need it.

Call The Midwife is the perfect combination of high drama – when is having a baby ever anything but? – and low stakes (village fairs, nativity plays, neighbourly gossip, etc), and we love it for that.

4. The Cleaning Lady

Based on a beloved Argentinian television series, The Cleaning Lady follows a doctor from Cambodia who becomes a cleaning woman for mobsters working in America’s organised crime system in order to pay for medical treatment for her young son. Gripping and propulsive, it’s a true binge watch.

Hear ye, hear ye… Euphoria is back. The beloved teen series starring Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Sydney Sweeney and Hunter Schafer is returning for a second season this month. Everything you loved about Euphoria will be found in these new episodes: drama, antics, love and high school. We predict this one will be the talk of the month.

6. The Righteous Gemstones Season 2

This cult favourite show centres on the televangelist family Gemstones, who are trying to protect their empire from forces outside their stronghold. Danny McBride stars as Jesse Gemstone, the leader of the family, with Adam Devine of Pitch Perfect fame in a key supporting role. We love this hilarious show and are so glad that it’s back for a second season.

Stan has another big original series debuting in January: the quirky and eccentric drama Wolf Like Me, filmed in Australia last year starring Isla Fisher and Josh Gad. The series centres on Gary, a single father, and Mary, a woman with a dark secret, who meet and start to fall in love.

What will happen if their lives come together? This six episode dramedy is written by Australian creative Abe Forsyth and is being called a genre shakeup.

Marc Cherry, the creator of Desperate Housewives, is the man behind this anthology series, whose first season starred Lucy Liu. This new season takes a bit of a time shift and focuses on a new set of murders taking place in 1949. Come for the juicy crime narrative but stay for the gorgeous costumes and production design.

10. Ozark Season 4

The final season of Ozark, starring Jason Bateman, Julia Garner and Laura Linney, will be split into two seven episode halves, with the first debuting on Netflix at the end of January.
