Watch: The Great

For such a brilliant series The Great is severely underrated in my opinion. It’s a historical comedy-drama loosely based on the life of Catherine the Great, the Empress of Russia. It takes a satirical and fictionalised approach to the events and stars Elle Fanning as Catherine and Nicholas Hoult as Peter III of Russia. If you’re someone who loves history, period dramas, or appreciates a strong female lead, this one’s for you – there are three hedonistic seasons to binge-watch.

See: The Archibald Prize at The Art Gallery of NSW

I love going to art galleries. Being able to calmly wander around admiring beautiful works and feeling ~cultured~ really does it for me. I get excited every year when The Archibald Prize is on at The Art Gallery of NSW. It's one of the country's most prestigious and well-known art prizes and showcases some incredible portraits. I wasn't disappointed this year – my favourite artwork was a vibrant piece by Tsering Hannaford whose subject is Berry Malcolm, a respected Yindjibarndi Elder, cultural custodian, linguist, artist and yirramagayi (song composer).

There's also the Young Archie competition finalists on display which is the most heartwarming selection of portraits created by talented artists aged between 5-18. If you're in Sydney between now and September, go check it out!

It's recently been awarded the 2023 European Destination of Excellence for sustainable tourism, implementing tourism measures that are reducing carbon footprints. If you're a nature lover you'll relish the picturesque landscape and alpine hiking trails. You can refuel after with some local delicacies such as potica, a delicious rolled pastry. I've always wanted to go to Slovenia and this is one city I've got my eye on for my upcoming Europe trip.

Admire: Biophilic design

If there's one design "trend" for 2023 that always stops me scrolling whenever I see it on my feed, it's biophilic design. The movement is all about bringing the outdoors in to enhance connectivity to the natural environment. The overall goal is to enhance well-being, health, and productivity by creating a relaxing environment with a visual link to nature. These spaces are always so calm and aesthetically pleasing. You can achieve this look both directly; lots of indoor plants, green walls, and natural elements that tie in with the surrounding landscape, and indirectly; nature-inspired tones, and statement wallpaper that replicates greenery and natural materials.
