Impress Your Visitors With These Affordable Guest Bedroom Hacks

So you've finished decorating your place and you're finally ready to show off your styling skills to your circle. It's always nice to provide a space in your home for friends and family to stay, but there is a sense of responsibility to make their stay as memorable and pleasant as possible.

If you're lucky enough to have space at your place for guests, take a look at the following list of decorating hacks to turn your guest bedroom into a five-star retreat in a few easy steps. You might even be able to rent it out on Airbnb to make a few extra dollars.

1. Essentials basket

Putting together a little basket with products and items that will be helpful to your guest is the best way to make a great impression. How many times have you forgotten to bring your toothbrush with you on a trip? Travel-sized hygiene essentials, as well as matches, a candle, and a stack of fresh towels, go a long way to creating a cosy environment.

2. Extra blankets

The perfect guest room should have options for when the weather changes or whether your guests just prefer to keep warm at night. By keeping a few extra blankets and throws on hand (in baskets at the end of the bed), you're giving your guests some autonomy over their stay. Also, you'll have everything on hand for when the seasons change.

3. Super-soft bed linen

A no-brainer, really. Our sheets feel like you're sleeping on a bed of clouds and are ideal for guest rooms. They're great for keeping you cool in summer and cosy in winter so you won't need to switch them out every season. If there's something we can all agree on, it's that sleeping between 100% French flax linen sheets is the best way to snooze.

4. Fan/heater

If you don't happen to have an air conditioning system in the guest bedroom, it's important that you provide your guests with the option to control their own environment. Everyone's body temperature runs differently and the last thing you want is your visitors to feel uncomfortable during their stay. Provide a small fan or heater in the room in case they'd like to use it.

5. Wardrobe space

One thing that all great hotels have is enough space for you to unpack your luggage so you don't feel like you're living out of a bag. If you don't have built-in wardrobes in the guest bedroom, consider adding a cost-effective solution that doesn't take up a lot of space.

6. Fresh flowers

It's the small touches that can make a huge difference. Fresh flowers by the bed are an immediate tick when it comes to providing stellar service at your place. Opt for something simple and without fragrance in case your guests happen to be allergic.

7. Books

If your visitors are going to be spending a few days with you, they might like to use some of their time to unwind and fit in some me-time. Let them feel like they're on holiday by providing them with some of your favourite books and magazines to read over with a cup of tea.

8. Bedside lamp

After you've curated a selection of books and magazines you think your guests will love, add in a bedside lamp to the room so that they can easily read a few pages before drifting off to sleep. As well as their practical use, lamps also provide a nice, warm ambience to a room.

9. Curtains

Your guests need their privacy. The last thing they need is someone walking by the window while they're getting changed. They're a must-have in all hotel rooms and they exude luxury; curtains are necessary for privacy but also help a room feel complete and luxurious.

10. Information sheet

Do you have a ridiculously-long WiFi password, a code to the front door, or specific parking instructions? Put all this information into a simple sheet for your visitors to look over once they've arrived. Sometimes details like these slip our minds and therefore dampen the experience if your guests are left confused or unable to use your amenities. Anyone who stays with you will appreciate the simple gesture.

11. A place to work

If space permits, setting up a small workspace with a desk and chair means that anyone who's staying with you has an extra space to organise their stay and even catch up on some work. If you're really tight on space, a compact armchair and side table will offer them a space to relax aside from the bed.

12. Warm textures

A guest bedroom shouldn't feel too clinical; it should be an extension of your home and exude your home's style. For a comfortable stay for your guests, choose warm textures and soothing colours to help them feel relaxed. A night spent in quality sheets is something they'll never forget.

Now, the living room. Make yours look huge with these 12 decorating tricks.
