Vintage Ligne Roset Lounges (Aka Togo Sofas) Are the Timeless Decor Item That's Here's to Stay

One of the most recognised chairs ever, the Togo lounge is an enduring example of curvy '70s furniture design. Designed by Michel Ducaroy in 1973 for French furniture company Ligne Roset, the Togo range has seen a resurgence on Instagram recently, and we can't get enough. Much like the bouclé trend of 2020, this is another comfy, cosy furniture piece perfectly suited to our new stay-at-home lifestyle.

Ducaroy was arguably Roset's most influential designers and is known for pushing technological boundaries—much like Marcel Breuer and the iconic Cesca and Wassily chairs. The ergonomic design has five densities of foam and quilted covers, making it the ultimate in comfort and one of the pieces of furniture everyone is obsessed with in 2020. Available in a glorious spectrum of bright colours and neutrals, the staying power of this inviting, cosy, quintessential '70s piece is undeniable, and completely perfect for our current era.

Below, we've rounded up our favourite Instagram posts featuring the iconic chair that serve some very dreamy styling inspiration.

7 Instagram posts giving off major Togo lounge inspo

1. Josh and Matt

We had the pleasure of touring inside the Melbourne apartment of TikTok and Instagram's favourite couple Josh and Matt.

The couple have filled the space with a cacophony of colour, art and design: Pink Clay and Turmeric sheets from Bed Threads, a 1993 Vilbert chair, a Memphis Milano squash tray, a custom desk from Curated Spaces and an abundance of vintage items from Facebook Marketplace and fellow designers. But one standout item is their twin squidgy red armchairs by Togo. It's one of their most loved items in their home, which they also claim is incredibly comfy, too.

2. Marie Wibe Jedig

We love Danish influencer Marie Wibe Jedig's pink Togo lounge set surrounding her incredible Studio Mignone pink-swirl coffee table.

3. Katie Eraser

Narrm-based Australian artist Katie Eraser keeps her vintage jade-green Togo chair in a light-filled fireplace-adjacent nook, making a strong case for jewel-toned upholstery.

4. Domo

For those with a more minimalist approach to colour, this all-black large settee pair shot for Australian retailer Domo adds instant warmth to a pared-back room.

5. Lisa Dawson

UK-based content creator Lisa Dawson heroes her pink Togo set in a mostly white and cream space, with indoor plants and a teal ottoman for balance.

6. Alan Tansey for the New York Times

This sunny yellow Togo settee, photographed by Alan Tansey for the New York Times' T magazine, is a bold rendition of Ducaroy's design. Perched under the bay windows in this incredible Victorian home in Brooklyn, it is the perfect reading nook if we do say so ourselves.

7. Gustaf Westman

We're mentally rearranging our lounge room to look like Gustaf Westman's.

To find your own Togo lounge, head to Domo or try your luck on premium second-hand sites such as 1stdibs.
