Exploring Iceland and Fine Dining: What Our Editor Is Loving in August

From our latest linen colourway to the Tomato Girl trend, here's what I've got my eye on, writes Bed Threads Editor Rachael Thompson.

August; temperatures are at their highest in the northern hemisphere and at their lowest in the southern hemisphere, it's Leo and Libra season (for any of you astrology girlies), and we're well and truly into the second half of the year.

This month, we've got our August TV guide for you to get stuck into some fun new shows while munching on one of our fun new recipes including Feta & Sundried Tomato Stuffed Flatbreads and Greek Feast with eggplant, parmigiana, greek salad, hummus (stay tuned).

If you're looking for some extra things to spruce up your August, keep reading to see what's caught my attention as of late.

Watch: Drops of God

I've hardly heard anyone talk about this show, so let me share it with you. Drops of God is an adaptation of the Japanese manga series of the same name written by Tadashi Agi. It starts with the passing of French wine critic, Alexandre Léger, who leaves behind a monumental private collection in Tokyo estimated to be worth $148 million. His estranged daughter competes against his protege to claim the inheritance. It's aesthetically pleasing, unique, and highly entertaining.

If you're someone who loves fine dining, consider yourself to be an oenophile, or you just love a bit of drama, this is the show for you.

Read: East of Eden by John Steinbeck

In my attempt to read more of the classics, the next book I picked up was East of Eden. Published in 1952, it's an epic work that spans several generations and explores themes of good and evil, morality, and the human capacity for choice.

It's primarily set in the Salinas Valley of California and is loosely based on the biblical tale of Cain and Abel. The narrative centres on two main families, the Hamiltons and the Trasks, and their intertwined destinies.

It's a hefty read but enthralling. I found that this story gained momentum around the 100-page mark so if you initially feel doubtful, keep going! It's renowned for its rich character development and powerful storytelling.

Eat: Ricotta Stuffed Pasta with Marinara Sauce

When it comes to comfort meals, does it get much better than a heartwarming pasta dish? It's certainly at the top of my list and this easy-to-make baked pasta from Highboy LA could very well be your next obsession.

This recipe sees large pasta shells stuffed with spinach and plenty of cheesy goodness – we're talking ricotta, mozzarella, and parmesan – baked in a marinara sauce and topped with basil. It guarantees a phenomenally comforting meal in 45 minutes.
