16 Addictive Podcasts the Bed Threads Team Are Bingeing Right Now

From true crime to celebrity scandals, here’s what we can't stop listening to.

Most of us can agree that certain activities are made infinitely better when we’ve got something playing in our headphones. Whether it’s your morning commute, ‘hot girl’ walk or Sunday reset, a great podcast is the perfect way to add a little entertainment to the most mundane of tasks.

We know it can be difficult to find a podcast you like – let alone want to binge – so we thought we’d collate what our team is tuning into at the moment to give you a diverse mix of pods to press play on.

So, if you’re tired of listening to the same playlist you curated years ago on repeat, or the static between changing radio stations, here’s what the Bed Threads team is listening to right now.

1. Missed Fortune

Recommended by: Rachael Thompson, Editor

I find it tricky to get into podcasts, but this one had me hooked from the get-go. The series shares the true story of how an elderly and eccentric millionaire hid a chest full of gold, sapphires, and rubies somewhere in the Rocky Mountains, leaving behind only a poem containing the clues of its location. It’s fascinating to hear how far people go in their search to find the hidden treasure, and I found the series to be a unique look into addiction and intergenerational trauma.

2. Every Outfit

If you’re in dire need of a pop culture fix, the Every Outfit podcast is the perfect option! Melding the worlds of fashion and media and brought to life by the scintillating duo Chelsea Fairless and Lauren Garroni, this podcast is my Saturday morning obsession. Their quick wit and dry sense of humour will keep you hooked.

If you were also devastated when you reached the final episode of Succession, this is the podcast for you. This six-part series from Schwartz Media follows Rupert Murdoch’s rise from a young journalist in Australia to the global media mogul he’s known as today. This podcast goes to great lengths to unveil the entirety of his career, while touching on what happens now his empire has been handed over.

As a secret reality TV lover, I'm always fascinated to learn anything about how the machine works and Unreal: A Critical History of Reality TV definitely scratches that itch. Presented by Pandora Sykes and Sirin Kale, this 10-part series dives into every sub-genre of reality TV,  interviewing the creators and stars of the most iconic shows, all while exploring the life-long damage they caused their subjects and their audience – ethically, politically and socially.

Look, I’d be lying if I said TikTok didn’t bring me here –  but I am so happy I’ve found it. I don’t think I've ever laughed so hard by myself driving to work, while also learning a lot. The Broski Report is a one-woman show hosted by none other than comedian Brittany Broski. Each week a new episode is released featuring commentary on new film releases, anticipated albums, and pop culture moments, all accompanied by Brittany’s hilarious demeanour and sharp intellect.

7. The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling

Recommended by: Genevieve Rosen, Co-Founder

I found The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling fascinating – it's a podcast hosted by journalist Megan Phelps-Roper (a former member of the Westboro Baptist Church) in which she charts the rise and rise of Harry Potter, as well as the recent controversies surrounding Rowling. It walks through a range of topics that have captured the zeitgeist over the past 20+ years, and is quite unlike anything I have listened to before.

8. Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett

I have also recently been bingeing Diary of a CEO with Steven Bartlett, who is a phenomenal interviewer. Each episode features an in-depth conversation with some of the most interesting minds of our time, across the realms of business, psychology, health and pop culture. I was totally gripped by his conversation with Airbnb founder Brian Chesky, who is a truly inspiring leader! I also loved the episode with Dr. Amen, one of the world's leading psychiatrists, who spoke about reframing mental health as 'brain health' and how positive thinking literally shows up on brain scans! The episode with Shopify President Harley Finkelstein was also really interesting, and spoke a lot about adversity, self-awareness and how different skills and hobbies, outside work, actually make you better at your job!

9. Best Friend Therapy

Journalist and podcaster of How To Fail fame, Elizabeth Day, hosts this glorious podcast alongside her bestie and psychotherapist Emma Reed Turrell. They cover topics such as burnout, narcissism, toxic positivity and perfectionism, getting vulnerable about their own experiences while offering therapeutic strategies to deal with life’s challenges. And at the end of every episode, you’ll be wishing they were your best friends, too!

This binge-worthy series is hosted by neuroscientist and author Alexis Fernandez. She covers mindset hacks, self-growth, relationships and self-love. Apart from sharing amazing insights and mind-boggling facts, she also invites incredible guests to feature on her episodes – the one with Steph Claire Smith was one of my faves!

Whenever I am in the mood for something different, I like to listen to the 99% Invisible podcast. It focuses on unnoticed areas of design and architecture that impact our everyday lives. I am always learning fascinating things, both in areas that I am familiar with and areas that I never even thought about before!

There’s a reason this podcast tops the charts every week. Hosted by Mia Freedman, Holly Wainwright and Jessie Stephens, Mamamia Outloud is a fresh, feminist and funny take on ‘what women are talking about’. Dropping thrice weekly (or daily for subscribers) the show covers everything from the pop-culture to politics, botox to Barbie. Sensitive, thoughtful and utterly bingeable, this show will keep you up to date on all the topics lighting up your group chat!

The Daily Aus is one of my favourite places to get the news. Each 10-minute episode is served up quick and fresh, perfect for your morning commute or lunchtime stroll.

14. Teachers Pet

I couldn’t get enough of The Teachers Pet podcast. Over 17 gripping episodes, Walkley award-winning Journalist Hedley Thomas investigates the disappearance of Lynette Dawson, wife of rugby league player and teacher Chris Dawson, on the Northern Beaches of Sydney back in the 1980s. Each episode delves further into the details of their relationship, including the extra-marital affair between Chris and a 16-year-old school girl. If you’re a fan of true crime and want to be on the edge of your seat while driving to work, this one is definitely for you.

15. Pop Culture Happy Hour

Recommended by: Nikita Ganatra, CRM Specialist
Where can I listen to it? On Apple Podcasts

If you're in need of a news fix but after something a little more playful than current affairs, you need to try Pop Culture Happy Hour. This daily podcast from America’s National Public Radio service – or NPR – covers all the film, television, music and pop culture news that you need to know. That includes breaking news commentaries, such as Britney's Spears' recent memoir and Sandra Oh and Awkwafina's new show Quiz Lady. The Friday episode runs a little longer than the others, but mostly they sit around that 20-minute mark and are easy listening for first thing in the morning.

16. But Are You Happy?

Recommended by: Shoshana Bodini, Social Media Manager

If you’ve ever looked at a successful person and wondered if their life is really as good as it seems, this podcast is for you. Hosted by former editor-in-chief of Mamamia, Clare Stephens, But Are You Happy? asks successful people what their life really looks like, behind the gloss. With a line-up of stellar guests, including Tiktok star Millie Ford, former Bachie Matty J and Olympian Cate Campbell, the show reminds us that ‘having it all’ isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be.
