5 Must-Have Items Your Home Needs to Reach Peak Cosy

From mood lighting to muslin throws, your home will be a comforting oasis in no time.

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s wanting our homes to feel cosy. From the moment you step through the door to your final blinks before bedtime, there's no better feeling than living in a beautifully comforting space.

For those looking to up the cosy-factor in their homes, there a few small but effective steps we can take to make our spaces feel like a warm hug.

Read ahead to find out 5 simple ways you can turn your home into a cosy haven.

1. Incorporate wood

What could be more cosy and comforting than your home feeling reminiscent of a log cabin? While we’re not suggesting you pack up and move to the mountains, you can easily recreate the vibe by bringing more wooden elements into your home.

Whether that means investing in a cedar coffee table or adding some wooden salad bowls to your next dinner party table setting, there are plenty of ways to bring an outdoorsy feel inside.

While furniture is the most obvious way to add wooden elements, there are plenty of other easier ways to add a touch of wood. Showcase driftwood as a wall hanging or swap your go-to flower arrangements for some lovely branches.

2. Mood lighting

When it comes to creating a snug atmosphere, lighting is key. Swap your overhead lights for several lamps, choosing to use warm, yellow light bulbs over white where possible. In addition to lamps, now is the perfect time to stock up on candles.

A few big pillars bunched together can make for a dramatic look, whereas several small tea lights can evoke a sense of fairy-like magic when spread throughout your house or apartment.

Experiment with lamps and candles, dotting them about your home, in places you might typically overlook. For example, adding a lamp in the dining room, or candles in the bathroom can transform these spaces in ways you might not have envisioned. In short, don’t underestimate the power of lighting!

3. Accessorise with throws

Is there anything more comforting than wrapping yourself up in a soft linen throw and watching one of your favourite films? Fabricated with a yarn dyed weave in our signature 100% French flax linen, our Linen Muslin Throws feel as beautiful as they look.

Double-layered with a frayed edge, they come in four stunning colourways including Oatmeal, Oatmeal & Mocha, Oatmeal & Olive, and Terracotta & Hazelnut. Perfect for draping over your couch or layering atop your bed, there's no better way to inject cosiness and comfort into your space.

4. Opt for earthy hues

Take a cue from nature, and choose decor that matches the rustic foliage. We’re talking about deep reds, browns, and even hints of golden yellow to really amp up that cosy feeling.

A Cacao & Hazelnut Bedding Bundle will transform your sleeping space into a cosy sanctuary, while a Rust & Lavender Table Bundle takes care of the dining table. If dark reds and oranges sound a little too overpowering, stick to more neutral tones. Even a subtle oatmeal colour can give off a cosy feel when thoughtfully paired with the right decor. Consider how your lighting, wooden elements, and sensory elements will play on the colours, rather than relying on colour alone to do the legwork.

5. Enliven Your Senses

One of the best ways to create a cosy feeling in your home is by enlisting all of your senses to get on board. In particular, smell and feel can go a long way in making a room not just look cosy, but actually be cosy.

Candles, diffusers, and room sprays can help you tackle the smell aspect. When it comes to scents, anything woody or earthy fits the bill for a comforting setting. You can’t go wrong with musk, sandalwood, and amber when the cooler seasons roll around.

When it comes to touch, it’s all about blankets, blankets, and more blankets. Don’t have a throw on your couch yet? It’s time to finally invest. There is no such thing as having too many throws, especially during the colder months. We might be biased, but it’s generally a good idea to at least have 2 different throws in rotation: One for the bed, and one for the living area.
